UNN @ 54 Students To Receive Washing Machines

In the next few months, students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, will start enjoying the comfort of washing machine.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba, who announced this at a press briefing at the Enugu Campus of the institution to mark its 54th Founders’ Day celebration as well as his 100 days in office, said it was part of his welfare package for students.

Making reference to universities in other parts of the world, he said UNN students equally deserved to study under a conducive environment.

The Vice Chancellor stated that apart from massive renovation of hostels, his administration had restored full moral and financial support to the Students’ Union Government.

He said within the 100 days of his administration, pipe-borne water, which had been absent in the University for the past 15 years, was restored.

Ozumba equally announced that the 54th Founders’ Day lecture of the University would be presented by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

While soliciting cooperation and constructive contributions from stakeholders, he further stated that “my overall agenda is to provide the University of Nigeria the leadership needed to become an academic giant and pace-setter in the quality of its scientific research, the level of its innovative teaching and the robustness of its community service among universities in the developing countries”.

“The dreams and vision of the Fathers in the motto they gave us, ‘To Restore the Dignity of Man’, are in our minds as we celebrate.

“We are aware that such dreams as they had may be borne only on stout shoulders- all the more reason for joint effort, for collaborative endeavour by all the stakeholders.

“Internally, we need a conducive working environment, a happy and productive workforce, and a crop of students eager to learn and desirous to apply all their time and energies to this essential task”, he added.

He identified the agenda of his administration to include- staff welfare, student welfare, environment and campus aesthetics, academic leadership and research as well as academic discipline and ethics.

APC Commends Adeboye For Distancing Redeemed Church From Offensive Preacher

The All Progressives Congress has commended the General Overseer of the Redeem Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, for distancing his church from what it termed “offensive and divisive audio Compact Disc” currently being distributed by some alleged political Pastors.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said GO deserved to be commended for again exhibiting an exceptional leadership quality. The party said it was a display of what religion should be about, which is love, rather than hate and arson.
The statement said the party was happy that the GO was specific in his instruction to his Pastors to pay no attention to the contents of the audio CD, especially the references to political parties, including the APC.

The party said, ”The GO’s statement, in his response to the APC, which had written to protest the divisive and corrosive statements contained in the audio CD, which has been smuggled into some RCCG parishes, made it clear that the RCCG is neutral and apolitical, and that it prays for all irrespective of political persuasion or creed.
”We, in the APC are delighted at the GO’s prompt action and statement that the RCCG did not endorse divisive comments in any form or shape, that it has sons and daughters in all political parties, and that the allegations contained in the audio CD are wickedly false, unsubstantiated, ill-conceived and mischievous
”Equally satisfying is the GO’s directive asking everyone in possession of the audio CDs to return them, and the directive to the Church’s Pastors to communicate such to their respective congregations immediately.”

The Party however said it was worried that a man who calls himself a Pastor could patronize “outright lies to propagate hatred, inciting Christians against Muslims so brazenly, as if the adherents of both religions are not children of the same God.”

It faulted the cleric for using “the platform of the church to campaign for the Peoples Democratic Party while seeking to destroy the APC.”

The party added, ”In a country where the citizenry, whether Christians or Muslims, have been shortchanged by greedy, selfish and clueless political leadership, a Pastor went on record as saying President Goodluck Jonathan has performed 100%, while at the same time demonizing and denigrating the APC as an ‘Islamic Party’ without a scintilla of proof. Much as he struggled to couch his inflammatory and discordant message in flowery lies, it is clear that he was sponsored to inseminate lies to shore up the dwindling fortunes of the ruling party.
membership of an Islamic Party been populated by Christians and Muslims? Why would a Pastor whose primary purpose is to preach the Gospel (good news) now make himself available, for whatever reason, as a tool to disseminate lies and bad news?

”Had this Pastor any sense of history, he would have realized how the propagation of hatred, as he is currently doing, led to the killing of over 800,000 Tutsi and moderate Hutu in Rwanda in 1994. This Pastor made it seem as if the terrorists called Boko Haram are fighting the cause of Nigerian Muslims, when he knows deep down that this evil group has not spared
Muslims either.

”We have said it several times: Boko Haram is a clear and present danger to Christians as it is to Muslims. Boko Haram is as dangerous to the rich as it is to the poor; it is as dangerous to the North as it is to the South.

“Simply put, Boko Haram is an enemy of Nigeria and all Nigerians, irrespective of their religion or ethnicity, must unite to defeat the terrorists.”
DailyPost recalls that one Pastor Bosun Emmanuel had in a new audio CDs cautioned Nigerian Christians against some political parties in the country, saying that they had Islamic agenda.
Cheat Allegation For Adultery - Ini Edo In Laws Reveals Truth

Cheat Allegation For Adultery - Ini Edo In Laws Reveals Truth

ini edoSequel to Ini Edo’s post on her twitter page, confirming her marriage breakup with her husband of 5 years and her claim that she never cheated on him, the relatives of her ex-husband have responded to her claims. Some of them have openly avowed that Ini Edo was a liar and a serial cheat.
According to Nigerianfilms.com, a close family source who is related to Philip spoke to a source on the condition of anonymity:
“Ini Edo should shut up about the marriage crash because with the way she is going by trying to paint Phillip as the wrong party, we may be forced to open her can of worms and it will not be palatable to her and her career.
“I can tell you that Ini Edo is a serial cheat who played the field behind her husband’s back for the duration of their marriage. Is she going to deny she was dating one Island big boy whose girlfriend organized her friends to beat her up and injured her?”

Another family source gave his own version of her escapades thus:

“Bros, I can tell you that Ini Edo is not as innocent as she is trying to make people believe or think. We caught her on more than three occasions with three different men and she always begged us to forgive her.

“We can even mention some of the men she had affairs with including a South-South governor whose wife embarrassed her and ordered her security to send her out of the governor’s guest house in the state capital.
“She should dare us and we will mention the name of the governor on the pages of newspapers.”

Another source, a close friend of Phillip who also wishes anonymity says:

“Did she tell you how Phillip embarrassed her in front of her people when he went to collect his bride price? He told her people the kind of adulterous daughter they have and how she had been cheating on him right from the first day they were married.
“In fact, he did not want to collect the bride price but her people begged him to collect it as that would free her to get married to another man in the future.”

Ebola: WHO begs Nigeria to avail expertise to affected West African countries

Nigeria has been admonished by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to provide expertise and build the capacity of other countries in the West African sub-region on how to contain the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in their countries.
Executive Secretary of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Mohammed Ado announced this after the meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and the Director-General of the WHO, Dr. Margaret Chan, on the successful containment of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country and the effective halting of transmission of poliomyelitis.
Ado further disclosed that WHO was set to announce Nigeria as the next country to exit from polio endemic countries having successfully reduced the burden by 95 per cent between 2013 and 2014
His words, “Mr President had interaction with WHO DG, we discussed the issue of poliomyelitis and she commended Mr. President for the leadership and effective management that had led to effective halting of the transmission of poliomyelitis in Nigeria and also containing the ebola virus outbreak. And Nigeria was well commended because Mr. President demonstrated highest level of leadership and other countries were called upon to emulate the good work of Mr President.
“You will recall that for poliomyelitis between 2013 and 2014 Nigeria was able to reduce by 95 per cent the burden in the country. Nigeria is being tipped as the next country to exit from polio endemic countries and was again commended by all countries and the leadership of Mr. President was appreciated by WHO and other countries were called upon to emulate Nigeria’s example,” he noted.
Speaking about how Nigeria can benefit from the new committee on Ebola, Ado said: “Nigeria’s role in containing the ebola outbreak in the country was well commended and other countries were called upon to emulate us. In fact one key thing that came out from the meeting between Mr. President and WHO DG was for other countries to benefit from Nigeria’s expertise in terms of containing ebola and Nigeria is going to support other countries in terms of capacity building, in terms of the emergency operation centres that we used.
“Because the emergency operation centres that we used which is the holding room arrangement which was used to contain the ebola outbreak in Nigeria. So Nigeria will be supporting other countries in terms of capacity building and human resource because already we have about 500 human resources available to assist other countries within the West African sub-region
“So what this means is that public health system in Nigeria is working and working very well. So lots of good things are happening in Nigeria and it is obvious that Nigeria is providing that leadership in the sub-region in terms of containing the Ebola virus,” Ado asserted

Obsanjo Returns Back To School

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo will today formally enrol as a graduate student at the headquarters of the National Open University of Nigeria in Lagos.
He is returning to the classroom for a higher degree in Christian Theology.
Having obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in 2009, the Owu-born high chief will now be working towards a doctorate degree, beginning first with a Masters degree.
Obasanjo told news site, Premium Times that he was going back to school because it was important for him to make some commitments towards achieving his aspirations in life.
“I’m going back to school because I need something to aspire to in every endeavour of life”, he explained
“I always aspire to something new in my farm. I do that in my international activities. I do it in my writing. I do it in the improvement of my academic work which helps to sharpen my brain and strengthen my faith.”
On combining his studies with his tight international engagements, the former Nigerian leader said he would take advantage of the flexibility of the Open University’s system.
“Fortunately, the Open University is flexible enough and I will definitely be able to cope. I was able to cope when I did the Post Graduate. I was also busy during the period”, he said.
The National Open University was initially established in 1983 but was suspended by the then military government in 1984. Obasanjo resuscitated it in 2001.
In November 2006, a few months to the end of his eight-year tenure, the then president enrolled for a post graduate diploma in Christian Theology at the university.

Rivers Government Bans Student Union Activities In RivPoly

The Rivers State government has placed a ban on all student union activities in the State’s owned Polytechnic, Bori in Khana Local Government Area.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Student Affairs, Osika Tamuno revealed this in an interview with Dailypost, following violent protest at the institution last week.

While condemning the riot by some students in the campus, Tamuno stressed that the ban would remain until investigations are concluded
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Student Affairs also dismissed rumours that a student was killed during the violent protest, where property worth millions of naira were destroyed.
Asika said: “The two ICT centres provided by TETFUND and ETF were utterly destroyed, vandalized and looted. Computers and other important property were also carted away.
“They destroyed anything they cannot carry.
“Government condemn the act in its totality and we will not rest until the perpetrators are brought to book.
“I have also established contact with the student that was rumoured had died. The said student is not dead. The police actually released him. I have talked with the student. We heard that he is in a hospital in Port Harcourt.
“Government is now sounding it loud and clear that all student related activities in the Rivers state Polytechnic be suspended until further notice.”
Following this development, some students from Rivers South-East called on the Commissioner of Police to investigate the riot at the Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori.
The Rivers South East Students Association made the call with a view to avoid a negative precedence in the institution.
The Students body also commended Ogoni leaders for coming together to make a common demand for the 2015 governorship election under the Ogoni Leadership Forum.
The Coordinator of the Association, Legborsi Yamaabana said students of Rivers South-East were in support of the call on all political parties to adopt Ogoni governorship candidates for the election next year.
Similarly, an Ogoni rights activist, Celestine Akpobari has faulted the response by the police to the crisis in the State Polytechnic.
Akpobari said it was wrong for the police to use maximum force against the protesting students whom he said were not armed.
Akpobari also hinted that some concerned individuals in the state have initiated efforts to ensure justice in the matter.

Vote Out Jonathan In 2015-Ameachi Charges Rivers People

Ameachi vs Jonathan 2015
The Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi has charged the people of the state to vote against President Goodluck Jonathan if he seeks re-election in 2015.
Amaechi gave the charge particularly to the people of Kalabari when he visited Degema Local government area of the state.
He told the gathering of Kalabari people that President Jonathan was a stranger and not their brother, adding that the President should show the world what he has done in Rivers state since his assumption of office.
“The only way you can get back your oil wells is to vote out Mr. President. It is up to you, the Kalabari people, if you don’t vote out Mr. President, you know that you cannot have another Governor like me who can fight for you.
“They will put the last signature and your oil wells will be gone forever.
“Vote him out. He is not our brother. He is from Bayelsa, we are Rivers. He can only serve Bayelsa, he can not serve us.
“Let him tell us what he has done for us,” Amaechi said.
Governor Amaechi also called on the President to avoid inciting the people of Bayelsa state and Kalabari because of the Soku oil wells dispute.

Nigerian Army Arrest Boko Haram Members On Sallah

The Nigerian military in Yobe state arrested dozens of suspected Boko Haram militants who had allegedly sneaked into the state capital Potiskum to prepare attacks during Eid, a senior security source said Saturday.

“We have in the last three days made 57 arrests of suspected Boko Haram terrorists who infiltrated Potiskum in preparation for planned massive attacks during the Eid celebrations,” said the source who asked not to be named because he was not authorised to speak to the media.

“They were arrested in different parts of the town and they were sent in advance, while weapons they were to use in the planned attacks were to be smuggled in later,” he said.

The traditional chief of Potiskum had to make a last-minute change in the venue of the Eid prayers because of security concerns, residents said.

The military on Friday barred residents from travelling out of the state based on fears that they could be attacked on the way. The travel lockdown prevented many residents from buying lambs or other livestock used in traditional sacrifices during the festivities.
