Rivers State Government Organize Training Session On Hygien

THE Rivers State Government has organised a one day training and sensitization programme on the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD for teachers and school administrators in public and private schools in the state. The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Health put up the programme to sensitize teachers ahead of resumption for the 2014/15 academic session.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Minabelem Michael West, said the essence of the program is to put up measures to prevent the spread of EVD in the state. He stated that the government has placed so much value on education and will work hard to protect it. Michael West also said that the children’s health will not be compromised and that the ministry will ensure that adequate measures are put in place to stop Ebola from entering any school in Rivers State.
He stated that officials of the Ministry of Health and World Health Organization, WHO, will continue the training in the three senatorial zones of the State so as to contain EVD in Rivers State. On the preventive measures to be adopted in schools, Dr Doris Nria insisted on regular washing of hands with soap and clean water.
She called on principals to ensure steady supply of water in their various schools. She also demonstrated how to wash hands properly with soap and water, how to put on the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and how to make use of thermometers.
The chief educator advised teachers to report any suspected case of Ebola to the nearest health centre or the State Ebola Emergency Centre. She listed the symptoms of the disease as high fever, severe headache, Muscle pain, Diarrhea Vomiting and Abdominal pain
An official from the WHO, Dr Gaya Gamhewage, commended Rivers State Government and the Federal Ministry of Health for their response in containing the disease in Nigeria. She said that the efforts of the government has proven that Nigeria can conquer challenges that comes its way. She also pointed out that proper personal hygiene should be maintained.
